چکیده
Abstract Introduction Carotid artery dissection is a common cause of stroke in the young. It has been related to association carotid with fixed neighbouring anatomical structures. This study assesses between styloid process length, internal position and cervical (CCAD). information would provide potential predicative radiological measurements, which could prevent delays CCAD diagnosis. Method Retrospective data was collected from two central London hospitals over five years. cases were identified individuals who underwent computer topography angiography (CTA) neck for suspected CCAD. The following collected: evidence CCAD; bilateral length presence styloid-hyoid ligament calcification; process-internal distance; calcification arteries whether their aberrant. Cases dissection-side, age gender matched non-dissection controls. Result Three hundred fifty-five identified. Fifty had CCAD, 4 dissection. In average 27.5 mm distance 5.14 mm. There no significant or distance, when compared Internal aberrancy non-dissection. Conclusion this study, there These measurements can not be used predict possibility trauma. Take-home Message Anatomy are highly variable many independent factors may contribute risk Radiological alone cannot likelihood

Carotid artery dissection associated with an elongated styloid process.
A 51-year-old man presented with right orbital pain and Horner syndrome three weeks previously. Although magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed no intracranial abnormalities, time-of-flight imaging of MR angiography (Picture A) detected an intimal flap and T1-weighted imaging (Picture B) indicated an intramural hematoma in the right internal carotid artery (ICA) at the cervical segment. Threed...
متن کاملdissection of extracranial internal carotid artery due to balloon guiding catheter resulting in asymptomatic internal carotid artery occlusion
dissection of the internal carotid artery (ica) is a rare condition that accounts for a significant proportion of ischemic strokes in young adults. iatrogenic dissection as a complication of neurointerventional procedures is a traumatic dissection which has been reported relatively rare in the literature. in this report, a case of dissection of the ica is reported that was caused by repetitive ...

Starting from the carotid trigone, a surgical approach to the parapharyngeal part of the internal carotid artery is described. The retrostyloidal part of the lateropharyngeal space is opened up from laterocaudal after resecting the posterior belly of the digastric muscle and the styloidal muscles. Vulneration of the cranial nerves (VII, IX, X) has to be prevented.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Internal carotid artery dissection has increasingly been reported as a cause of transient ischemic attack or stroke. However, scarce data exist on the natural history of the arterial lesions and the temporal profile of recanalization. METHODS We followed 48 patients with 50 angiographically confirmed internal carotid artery dissections by sequential duplex Doppler studi...
